GAS
Key Scripture: “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength” Phil 4:13NIV
Focus Scripture: “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed” Prov 16:3

GAS is an acronym for Group of Academic Supporters. @ELIM is a student ministry and the GAS ministry caters for the academic aspects of students’ lives. We are in a privileged position of having people on all levels of study within our congregation, from first year students to Doctor’s level graduates. As GAS we provide a platform for the congregants to help one another and in the process form brotherly and sisterly relationships amongst the congregants.

Taking, amongst others, the example of Stephen and the other six men’s ministry (Acts 6:1-7) and how it came to be. Firstly the ministry arose to cater for a need, Acts 6:1”…the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.” The need we cater for is the studies, which often times occupies the minds of the congregants. Experience has shown us over the years that ‘unhealthy’ studies, without the right support structure, can effect on the students relationship with God. Secondly we look amongst our own disciples, thus the people used in the ministry are themselves members of the body of Christ.

GAS renders the following services: Tutoring, the annual Career Day, Dedication and Exam prayer meetings, company tours and assistance with study material and previous question papers. Christ comes first in ALL that we do and our aim as GAS is to help the students towards putting Him first in their studies. We believe that if one understands and applies that whilst they are still students, they will grow to apply the same principles in the later parts of their lives. We rely on Christ in ALL things; after all He is the God of ALL knowledge and wisdom.
